How to Read Recycling Labels

Can it be recycled?

Nowadays, a lot of waste that could be recycled ends up being discarded improperly because many people don’t know how to check. Today, let’s learn some simple ways to read recycling labels — anyone can do it!

♻️ Recycle Symbol

Start by looking for the recycling symbol on items. The symbol usually appears as a triangle made of chasing arrows, often found at the bottom of bottles or boxes.

📋 Check the Number Code Inside the Recycling Symbol

These numbers identify the type of plastic, for example:

  • 1 (PET) = Water bottles – recyclable
  • 2 (HDPE) = Milk jugs, shampoo bottles – recyclable
  • 5 (PP) = Food containers – recyclable
  • 6 (PS) = Foam containers – difficult to recycle

💬 Read the Additional Labels

Some brands include helpful messages on their products, such as:

  • “Recycle me” – Encourages recycling
  • “100% Recyclable” – The product can be fully recycled
  • “Made from Recycled Material” – The product is made from previously recycled materials

By learning to read recycling labels correctly, we can separate waste properly and ensure it goes to the right place.
